DAILY TRAVEL BOOK NUMBER BLACK
PAINT IT BLACK IS THE COLOR FRAMED
DEETEEBEE FROM FRAMED BLACKS AND WHITES
THE FRAME ALWAYS TELLS THE CONTEXT UNLESS IT MEANS WHAT IT MEANS HERE
Way before them were the Rolling Stones and Nina Simone. Black Buzz was too dark to steal the title from Lotus Plaza and looking at them I realized everything was about keys anyway. Black Keys is obviously the name of one of my favorite band and this series is just a mess made in France. It gathers black and white squared shots from a time mixing I and eye and turning a phone into something that has a place in a public space.
I see closed restaurants and neons in stores making a sentence ordering you something for your own sake. I see things I can't recognize and my dad looking at a window. I see streets from a cab and lights in the dark, I see myself bored and amused and Patti Smith's book in the fifteenth. I see a train station in Normandy and Elo in Deauville, some bed from a hotel and the horizon where the sea lies under the sky. I see fairs in the eighth and orders on a wall, acceptance of law breaking it and cars going always too fast for the ones walking. I see frames and televisions, reflection, stairs, underground and outside, windows, a man staring and a truck parked in the sixth. The sun from the train going to Paris from Perpignan and Eli Reed on a wall for the Festival. Tesson's words I shot somewhere between Barcelona and Menorca but maybe that was in the seventeenth. We have unknown twins brothers and sisters, we have unknown twins and the road makes me feel better.
Paris, Deauville, Trouville, Perpignan. 2013 - 2015.
BE LIKE BLACK AND K LIKE KEYS OR KOALA
MEANING NOTHING REALLY BUT BLACK IS THE COLOR
The Daily Travel Books are sixteen volumes made of instant unedited shots. They are witnesses of a universe belonging to a moment in time where the best camera is the only one you carry with you.
Although they are not pretending to be art, a few shots by them have been shown in Paris and Barcelona’s collective and solo shows.
Often squared as if they were straight, the Deeteebees were fuzzy soft black stars until things exploded. Walking away in California, they cheated on squares and monochromes for a colorful Good Day spreading in Elle A. Flirting with documentary when they are other bricks in the wall from Paris, they are most of the time intimate love songs. Like for Marlon in green and blues, or Wasteland inspired by a kid from the woods.
Instant love for the second they're living in, of course they dress in Polaroids sometimes. Using filters as a classical fiction technique, they are naked as unedited raws. Taken for themselves without any desire to be shown, they are very shy and deliver many sides of what time can be.
They obviously wouldn’t be themselves without Pink Floyd, Antony and the Jo, The Dresden Dolls, Tom Waits, TS Eliot and Woodkid, Grant Lee Buffalo and Keaton Henson or Unkle and Tash Sultana. They just can’t stop the music, cause they are nothing else but a soundtrack. Always on the move.
Be kind with them, they are sensitive.
